Growing Oregano at home

Question
Hi
I am trying to grow oregano at home and have been unsuccessful. Could you give me some tips and advice on how to grow it at home. I don't get much sunlight in my place so I have been putting the oregano under a light. I don't know whether I should be leaving the light on constantly or can I turn it off at night? Approximately how many hours of fake sunlight does it need to grow? Thanks.

Answer
Vanessa:
Oregano likes to be grown outdoors, go dormant for the winter and return in the spring. It hates trying to grow indoors. It must have sunlight or tube lights about 6" above it.Lights should be on for 12 hours. Prune back the ends of each branch by 1/3 every 3 weeks. Normally you won't get much growth. Lightly water once a week. No fertilizer. If it gets weak looking, place it outdoors facing south or east and mulch. Only cut what you need to use. The Italian oregano flavor is mild, the greek oregano is strong, they both will over winter.
