Vegetable Growing

Question
Is it possible to grow parsnips 20 foot long, and if so, the best method of growing my 'super parsnips'?

Answer
Hi Jerry,

Sorry for the late reply.  I  have never grown vegetables for size.  I am not sure if there is an exact science to growing large veggies or if it is partly luck.  May I ask why you want to grow such a large parsnip, for a contest?

To grow such a long parsnip you will need to have a deep amount of aerated soil; if you have a rock bed 6 feet under your top soil the parsnip will not be able to grow deeper, so choosing where you grow is important. Well fertilized soil is also necessary, find out what fertilizers are best for parsnips, have the correct ph level and give it a try.

I hope this helps a little bit.  I would love to here how your parsnips do.

Happy gardening,
Catherine
