judith hindle

Question
I purchased a judith hindle.I was concerned about how it digest its food.It caught a small green insect.nothing happend for the last 2 days.when will it digest the insect?

Answer
Hi Latonya,

Digestion in Sarracenia is more of a slow, on-going process.  Also, just like when we digest food, not everything gets digested.  In carnivorous plants the exoskeleton of insects remain.  The plant gets rid of them when the leaves die-off in the winter.  New leaves grow in the spring.

Good Growing!
