Brocchinia reducta

Question
Hey Jeff,

I watched the segment on your "Grow Carnivorous Plants" DVD series regarding Brocchinia reducta. Does this particular carnivorous bromeliad produce flowers/seeds, or is asexual reproduction (producing pups) its primary means of perpetuating?

Thank you,

Derick

Answer
I've seen seeds for this plant for sale, but we've never bothered with pollinating the flowers, nor have we seen seed pods develop on any our flower stalks.  We're also not sure if you need two genetically different plants to produce seeds.  If so, then your only method on propagating the plant is via division.

Good growing!
