Carnivorous Plants Environment

Question
Hello, so I have this Carnivorous Creations kit with a terrarium and dome. You say that we shouldn't use terrariums and the soil often gets gray mold on it so I have to dry out the soil. So far only one plant has sprouted, which I believe is going to be the only one. So, what should I do with this terrarium? I mean apparently terrariums are bad for my plants, so what exactly should I do?

Answer
Hi Garrett,

First I have to know what kind of plant it is that sprouted.  I can't help you much unless I know that.  Different carnivorous plants have different care.  See if you can figure that out, or send me a clear picture of the seedling.  This is often easier if you can use a real camera as opposed to a phone camera.

The problem with the little carnivorous creations isn't the terrarium alone, but the whole concept of them.  I wrote a long review on Amazon recently trying to dissuade anyone from purchasing one of these, but they are mass marketed in the toy market.  I've really surprised they company (Dunecraft) has not come under fire from the FTC since the average consumer with no prior knowledge of carnivorous plant growing has zero chance of getting plants to the stage shown in pictures with the resources the company provides you.  They are flat out a scam.  I know of lots of folks that have achieved germination, but not much beyond that.  Here's a link to that review:  http://www.amazon.com/review/RR2M94VN23KDL/ref=cm_cr_dp_title?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00BM

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Good Growing!
