MY CARNIVOROUS PLANTS

Question
I have two nepenthes growing under artificial light. I have a N. Miranda and a N. Sanguinea, they are about 8 inches from the light. The N. Miranda is slightly red but when it produces 2 pitchers. The pitcher which grew before always dies. (The average pitcher lifespan for my plants are about 2-3 weeks.)I grow them in african violet pots and firtilize them every other month. I live in portland so its probrably not the water thats effecting the growth.
Thank you,

Answer
Hi Robert,

Get your plants closer to the light.  Brighter light helps them to make pitchers.  What your describing isn't abnormal for small plants.  The pitchers tend to have a longer lifespan when the plants get older.  If you also have them near a window, growth will pick up as the days get longer.  Otherwise, what your doing sounds fine.  Nepenthes are just not very fast growing plants.

Good Growing!
