Cactus propagation

Question
How and when do you take cuttings from a very large (10 foot tall, multi-barreled) night blooming peruviana cactus.  Some barrels have joints, some don't.  Do you cut at ground level, anywhere, or just at joints?  It has just finished flowering.  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Gene,

Basically all you need to do is select the 揳rms?you wish to remove and using a hacksaw or knife, cut off at least a 2 to 3 foot section (from the top of the plant). If you use the section too close to the bottom, it may not take root. Let the cut surface dry out for at least 3 or 4 weeks before putting in soil. Then replant the cuttings in a very well draining soil, preferably a so-called 揷actus mix? It will take approximately a month or more to root, so be patient.

Hopefully this helps and good luck!

Sincerely,

Greg
