Strange Aloe Growth

Question
I have an aloe plant that I got last fall from a plant he had. It has since then grown quite a bit and had several pups. Today I noticed a strange collection of growths in the pot with my aloe. The largest is about an in tall with several small ones around its base. The plant lives inside all the time so I'm not sure what has gotten into my pot. Small growths can be seen also near the base of the aloe and in a third spot in the pot.

What should I do? Will this new growth hurt my plant? Could it be something harmful to me even? All of the growths have round bulbs or heads on top of the stalks. I can email pictures if that will help. Thanks!

Answer
Leigh Ann,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It sounds like you have a fungus (mushrooms) growing in the soil. The easiest way to get rid of it is to pull them out. You can get a fungicide (there are a number of brands available) at your local nursery that you can add to your water. That should keep it in check. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
