Aloe Fungus

Question
Our aloe plant (about 7 years old) has recently developed mushrooms growing near the base of the plant.  The branches grow about 6-8 inches and then begin to turn brown at the tips and dry out.  More branches continue to grow but over time the plant is becoming lighter.  We have got a new plant sprout up near the base of the plant that we have transplanted and it seems to be doing very well.  It is dark green and growing well.  What can we do to get rid of the fungus/mushrooms to save our plant?

Answer
Hi Amy...I am just guessing at this with what you have said.  Plants that have mushrooms in the soil is not a problem, it is just the soil breaking down.  I have a feeling by your description that you are watering it too much with the type of soil you are using.  Brown tips is also a indication of too much water.  Aloe is a desert plant.  It could also use some fertilizer to darken it up.  You could use some Epsom salts to give it a quick fix of minerals.
