Propagating aloe plant

Question
Hi,
I just got a start from my sisters aloe plant.  It has very little roots on it.  Do I put in water so the root system can grow more or just go ahead and plant it?  What type soil should be used? Also, the best lighting in my home is East and West with some North and South.

Answer
Hi Ann,

Put the start directly in a very small pot. Use a very porous potting mix by using 2 parts of regular potting mix or peat moss and one part perlite. Keep it barely damp at all times. Placing it on either an east or west windowsill would be fine.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions. If you would like to e-mail me some photos, I may be able to provide some additional insights.
