Diseased cherry tree

Question
Hi Jim, and thanks for your assistance.
I live in Cupertino, Ca. I have two cherry trees, one red variety and the diseased one, which is white with spots of red. The sick tree has gotten worse last year. The leaves are curled and black and the young shoots are black, possibly dead.
Any ideas?

Answer
Sounds like it maybe black knot. Here is a web link that discribes diseases of cherry and the contols. This is about the best I can do with the discription you gave, I would suggest you contact the Calif. Extension Service and ask their advice, if they have an office in your county they maybe able to come take a look at the trees. Here is a link to their web site directory. http://ucanr.org/ce.cfm
