Question

Arborvitae close up of
Hi Chad, Our arborvitae were planted in April 2004,they have been doing very well until late this past summer when the TIPS of them started turning brown and now they are very sparse and look terrible. Tips are turning from the outside in.  Help diagnosis please. We live in Va. Beach, VA.  I am going to try to send a close up of the tips as well as a few more pictures.  Thanks

Answer
Hi,Julie
How are you?It looks like you have arborvitae leafminer.Which is a worm that turns into a moth and is killing these plants all long the east coast. You need to treat with a systemic called orthene which will kill from inside out. Then after u get under control treat with a 20/10/10 n/p/k fertlizer to push out new growth. You should c improvement in 6 weeks or so. They will come back trust me its one of our main treatments we do up here. You can have a spray company treat for u and get better results faster and this should cost about 85$ to 125$ a visit and u will need 2 treatments
