big problem with my money tree

Question
QUESTION: Hi kathy,
i bought my money tree last spring, its good 4 ft + money tree. it was not looking very good after few days and i changed its place (which it really liked in the beginning or u can say for 5-6 months and became very healthy but for last 1 month 1 of 5 braded trunk is all shrunk and losing its leaves, leaves turn trnsparent green then yellow then brown and fall down and now another trunk is doing the same. pls help me, i really love my money tree.

ANSWER: Hi huria, I have a feeling you are watering it too much, brown tips usually means too much water.  I have a few in a pot outside I never water and they are doing fine.  If you have a dish under it to hold the water it has to be emptied after 15 minutes or it will cause root rot.  kathy

QUESTION: hi Kathy,
My money tree is indoors, i am in Dallas, Texas, its very cold outdoors. I am watering it once a month, heat is always on @ 68f. Do you think I should reduce it to once in 6 weeks or two months? And should i remove those 2 dried dried braided trunks, or just leave them right now and wait for spring? and thankyou very much for replying.

Answer
Hi huria, Did you move it into a larger pot?  If so, you need to only water the outside edge as the plant dries from the outside of the pot in and the middle can still be wet.  Scratch the branch to see if it is still green like the other limbs.  That will tell you if it is still alive.  It is a real tough plant and should respond better when it gets warm and you can put it out again.  If you have done any of the above you may want to wait 6 weeks to make sure it is dry.  If you can stick your finger into one of the holes in the bottom of the pot that may show you how wet it is or is not.  And if you have not been watering it and did not move it up it may need more water.  Only you know what you have done so follow one or the other.  I hope it makes sense what I am trying to tell you.  If you did not move it into a larger pot than it may not be getting enough water no matter how much you water.  You could also try lifting it out of the pot to get a idea also.  kathy
