Weeping Cherry problem

Question
QUESTION: The leaves on my weeping cherry tree have wilted and some are turning yellow.
No noticeable insects are present.  The tree has been treated with a fungicide
several times since March.  Can you provide a diagnosis?

ANSWER: My first thought is to check the amount of water you are giving the tree.  If you are in a dry hot climate, the tree may not be getting enough water on a regular basis.  Wilting can be caused by either too much or not enough water.  The leaves turning yellow suggests to me that it may not be getting enough water.  Respond back if this does not seem to be the case.  Thanks.

QUESTION: The tree has received adequate water.  I live in central Ohio and rain has been plentiful.  Any other ideas?
Thank You.

Answer
In your area the tree may have received way too much water too quickly, which would cause root rot and subsequent wilting.  If the rains have subsided, I would do nothing for a week or so and see if the tree improves on its own.  If it does not within about 7-10 days I would buy some Daconil fungicide at a garden center and mix a 2% solution in a couple of gallons of water and then drench around the base of the tree with this mixture.  The fungicide has some activity against several soil-borne pathogens that can be causing the problem.  Good Luck.
