Sambo lemon tree

Question
Hi, I live in East Texas and have lots of plants but have always wanted a lemon tree., which is something you can not find here or have shipped her. My friend went to Florida a month ago and brought me back a 42" sambo lemon tree. It is in a 10" plastic pot that it was purchased in and it has about 10-13 small lemons on it, so cute. They have all fell off and now the leaves are falling off. I can not see anything wrong with the leaves or and spots so I am not sure if it has a disease or if I am doing something wrong, which is probably it. I do not want to lose this plant it means alot to me so please if possible give me a idea as to what is wrong with my plant....I do keep it in the house because the weather here changes daily but I have it in front of a lrge bay window...Thanks

Answer
Hi Sherri, Sanbokan is a great lemon, like drinking lemonade with sugar in it.  Sounds like not enough water, would cause leaves and all to fall off.  Proper watering in a container is a little trickier than in the ground.  It you moved it to a larger pot it does not need to be watered as often.  Plants in containers dry from the outside in and all you may have to do until the roots have grown into the rest of the pot is water the outside edge and not the whole thing all the time.  If you brought it in and have it in a saucer  sitting in water, the water has to be removed from the dish after 15 minutes or the plant will rot.  In the sun in the same pot, here in FL I water them everyday.  So I hope some of the above will help.  kathy
