strange bug found in house

Question
hi jack , i live in Norwich in England .Today i found a grey/silver bug in my house whilst i was changing my sons nappy,it was in the crease of his skin, looked like it has got stuck there. i was curious and as i went to pick it up it very quickly slithered away like a snake !  i was very shocked iv never seen anything like that in my life ! as far as i could see it had no legs OR antennae, it was about 1cm long, its body was round and larger one end and smaller the other. please tell me what it is as im very worried what it was.

THANKS JADE

Answer
Jade,

I'd need a picture to be certain but I think you are describing a silverfish (called a fishmoth in parts of UK I believe). See http://www.livingwithbugs.com/silverfish_firebrats.html for a picture. The antennae and legs are hard to see in silverfish. These critters are harmless but can damage paper and other starchy material. Post a follow up if you have questions after looking over the page cited above.
