Identify a house plant

Question
I need help identifying a large (about 7 ft tall) indoor plant. It's probably not too uncommon, I just don't know much about plants. It's kind of like a tree, but it has four tall, very thin stems that are kind of palm tree looking. The leaves grow right out of the stems. They are long and thin and they turn brown and fall out often. The tallest stem is very bare. It has a few small leaves at the very top. I need to know if I should cut down that stem.

Answer
Brenda,

From your description I suspect it is a Yucca elephantipes plant that is being very overwatered. For a picture of the plant and care instructions go to the following website: http://www.indoor-plant-care.com/indoor_plant.asp?title=Yucca+elephantipes%2CSpi...

If that is your plant and you should only water it once every 2 weeks and move it to the sunniest location possible. Treat it like a cactus. It will send out new growth. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
