Squirrels in house?

Question
Hello,

I have a rental house, clean and in great condition, where the tenants are hearing the sound of movement in the ceiling of the finished basement.  My first guess was that it was mice or rats, so I placed bait stations and traps in outside places where it was likely there was activity.  After 3-4 days, no bait taken and no activity at the traps.

My other thought was, could it be squirrels?  The only time the tenants hear the movement is at night.  I didn't think squirrels were nocturnal.  If it is squirrels, how do I trap them?

Thanks

Answer
Inspections should always precede control, particularly with lethal control like poison.

Noise is like pain. All it tells you is something is wrong, not what is wrong. I suggest you visit http://www.icwdm.org/Inspection/Course/default.asp  take our free training on how to inspect your building then see if that works to determine the cause. If nothing else, it should help you rule out likely candidates. Then and only then can we think about control. Lots of control info at the site too.
