I live in Dorset SW England PLEASE!! can you help me to identify these NASTY!! little beasts, THANKS!!

Answer
Elena,

These sound like grain mites, also called mold mites. These tiny mites feed on fungi (mold) so are very common in grain storage warehouses especially if the grain is allowed to become damp and moldy. They are also common in homes where, again, conditions are damp and moldy. The mites are harmless but they may indicate a moisture problem such as a leaky pipe, etc. You should inspect for moisture/mold and repair whatever is causing the dampness. Once the moisture problem is solved the mites will go away without further treatment. Here's a link to an article about mites in general http://www.livingwithbugs.com/mites.html and a drawing of a grain mite.
