organic lawn using sugar

Question
I found some comments on this site by an expert called Charlotte (who is no longer available to contact).  She stated that she uses Sugar instead of fertilizers and pest control for the lawn... she wrote:
"Put sugar on the lawn, at the rate of 1 pound sugar per 250 sq.ft. of lawn. Stop using chemicals, and build a healthy environment for lawn critters and beneficial insects and microbes and weeds will not grow and thrive in your lawn...for the last 8 years, I have not put anything on my lawn except sugar. I have thick, dark green grass and no weeds or pesky insects."
Can you comment on this?   If this is a good option, how often would we put sugar down?

Answer
Never having used this method, we would be more inclined to use organic fertilizers and organic pest controls specific to the location/condition. Pure cane sugar is a source of trace minerals, , you do apply it in the spring.  It might attract sugar ants, and other pests.

Organic lawn fertilizers and pesticides are available at some garden centers or online at:
Harmony Farm Supply
All Natures Safeway
Planet Natural
Peaceful Valley Farm Supply
