organic fertilizer

Question
I have been unable to find cornmeal but one feed store suggested using "chicken mash" which has the following ingredients:
Cracked corn
Soybean meal
Wheat bran
Calcium Carbonate
Cane molasses
Suncured  alfalfa meal
Granite grit
Oyster shell
Mono-dicalcium phosphate
Canola oil
Salt
Other misc. ingredients

Would this be a good organic fertilizer and how much should I use?

Answer
I really couldn't say. You would have to calculate the percentage of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, for one. Also, salt can be detrimental to many plants - though I doubt that it is present in very high concentrations. The same with the oil. The calcium level may be too high - it could through the pH off.

If you're really set on using this, why don't you get one bag (or buy a smaller amount if they sell it in bulk) and try it on a small area?
