Sod & Sand

Question
I live in Palmdale, California, And my back yard is full of sand, my husband turned over about a foot of dirt and sand, then he laid down sod, without using fertilizer, the sod is separating and looking like straw, What can I do to save it.

Answer
The fertilizer you are NOT using is probably going to drain right through the Soil.

Get yourself many bags of Compost/Humus from Lowes, Home Depot, etc.  NO fertilizer.  Lift the Sod, distribute and water in.  Pick up their water-retaining pellets that come in jars to use with new Grass.  It will retain moisture and help the Grass roots.  Then re-lay the Sod.

Get yourself a large container of 'Messenger' Harpin Protein at the garden center.  Spray it on the Grass asap.  Fast recovery is what it promotes.

Do not overwater -- you'll set your Sod up for fungus.

Good luck.
