Bermuda sod

Question
We live in southeast Virginia and about 4 - 6 weeks ago we had someone lay bermuda sod to our yard.  We have watered like we were told and for the most part it looks great.  However, we are getting weeds that are popping up all around.  Some of it looks like nut grass and the other kind of weed is a broad leaf weed, not sure exactly what. Is this normal? Will the Bermuda eventually suffocate the weeds? It is throughout the sod not just in the seams.  What should we do? My last question is what height do you recommend to cut this type of grass?

Answer
I recommend 2 - 3 inches long for Bermuda.

Weeds need to be brought under control with products that are safe for Bermuda. For that, just go to the nearest reputable garden center and explain your dilemma. They'll have plenty of good options for you.

Weeds are a normal part of any lawn, whether from seed or sod. It's just one of those things you'll need to deal with as the years roll on.

Good luck with it!
