Burnt grass

Question
Hello.  Thanks for giving me a place to ask my question.
Some of the sprinkler heads in my yard are not working and I can't afford to replace them right now.  We have had an extremely wet summer and there hasn't been a problem yet.  We are now going through a very steamy period, with no rain for about a week.  The grass is just starting to yellow.  There is rain in the forecast in about 3 days.  My question is this:  This is a very mature lawn (15 years).  Will the lawn come back next year, or in the Fall, if I allow it to burn a little bit now?  I DEFINITELY can't afford to re-create the whole lawn.  Thanks.

Answer
It depends upon what kind of grass you have. Generally, it is harder for seeds  to come back. Such lawns need to be reseeded. If the lawn grass throws out runners, it is very likely that such a lawn will recover but will need some help. Water it regularly and if possible, put down some topsoil wherever runners are sprouting. The topsoil will help them to root in. and spread.
