Lake sprinkler pump constantly needs priming

Question
I have a 2hp Welbilt pump attached to my 4 station sprinker system.  The run from the pump to the lake is about 100 feet and then from the pump to the system another 5o feet.

I cannot keep the pump from needing to be primed sometimes during a zone cycle time but almosat always between going form one valve to another.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Answer
Barry,
Sounds very much like it has to be a leak on the suction line. And you have alot of suction line to check.  Check threaded fittings first. At the plug or bib or point where you prime the suction line in you open that and there is no water to be seen then you are leaking somewhere. Also could be foot valve, but you have to pull the whol pipe out of the water to check that. Make sure threaded fitting and any unoins are leak free first and let me know, Jim
