Shallow well pump priming.

Question
I have installed a shallow well for landscape irigation.  The well is 24' deep and the water table is 18'.  I have a 2hp pump 1 1/4" drive pipe and 1" outlet pipe from the pump.  My problem is this:  after priming the pump it works great, plenty of water and pressure however, after shutting down the pump it will only prime again if I remove the plug from the top of the discharge tee.  Within 15 seconds or so it begins to bubble and spit water and then takes off.  If I replace the plug to soon at won't take off.  It is as if the plug has to be removed to release pressure.  I read that if the back flow valve is to close to the pump that it could prevent proper priming.  Mine is 2" from the pump, (and no room to lengthen)  Could this be a problem? There is water in the pump for priming so the check valve is preventing back flow.  I called the Water Ace Pump Co. and their customer service said they never herd of such a problem.  Can you help.  Thanks

Answer
I really dont see how the location of the backflow device would be an issue.  Im assuming that you have a jet or centrifugal pump that has a foot valve on the bottom of the intake line.  I would check that valve to make sure it is holding water in the line after pump shut off.  Otherwise, make sure all of the connections are tight, the plugs and fittings arent leaking and that the intake line has no leaks.
