Damaged field wiring

Question
I have a 2 zone system and one isn't working. I found out that the solenoid is fine but I found a broken field wire. How do I replace this wire? I dug up the wiring from the solenoid and it is now leading me under a concrete slab/patio. I tried to splice the wires and found the wires to be corroded. Help!

Answer
Your wire probably became corroded because it had a nick or cut in the insulation, allowing moisture in creating the corrosion.  Sometimes you can repair this by removing a 1 or 2 foot section where the bad spot is.  Then you splice in a new section of wire, using waterproof wire nuts on both ends of the splice.
