Toro controller and valves

Question
QUESTION: 1)I have a Toro EL-6A controller that while I can hear timer working but time does not turn or change. 2)I have 2 zones that will not fully come on w/o pulling up one of the heads fully. However, when I manually turn valve on they work. Thanks

ANSWER: if both valves are having the exact same issue they may not be getting enough power to open properly. try first putting their wires on another terminal - say stations 3 & 4 on the controller. you may also have a bad transformer that is not converting the power correctly. do you have a volt-ohm meter to check it with?

QUESTION: Sorry for delay. I have replaced w/new controller and now it wont work at all. Zones still open at valve with no problem. Controller wired correctly w/power on screen. Thanks again.

ANSWER: do you have a volt-ohm meter to check the voltage? Do you have a pressure gauge to take readings at several locations?

We may be able to diagnose the problem by inspecting the wiring connections, the voltage that is being sent and received, the resistance, and the solenoids. If all the voltage checks out and the solenoids are good I would say that you have a pressure or flow issue; something is constricted/blocked/plugged. have you recently done or had any work done around the irrigation system? Could a valve somewhere be partially closed - like your point of connection? Also if you have a pressure gauge we can pinpoint where the problem may be based on taking readings at several locations. Do you have any of these items of feel comfortable doing it? I will help as much as possible.

QUESTION: I was able to manually turn on the system at old controller with only the 2 of 6 zones not coming on fully. Now, w/new controller nothing comes on. I have no meter or pressure gauge. It appears to be an electrical problem as I know its wired and programed correctly. I did dig up the 3 valves out front but the old controller worked manually after that, the same as before with no timer.

Answer
AT THIS POINT BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE HYDRAULIC AND/OR ELECTRIC ISSUES I RECOMMEND HAVING AN IRRIGATION PROFESSIONAL DIAGNOSE YOUR SYSTEM ON-SITE. THE ACTUAL PROBLEM MAY BE MORE EASILY IDENTIFIED USING A PRESSURE GAUGE, VOLT-OHM METER, AND OTHER TOOLS THEY HAVE AVAILABLE TO THEM. THIS IS THE BEST SOLUTION AT THIS POINT.
