Voltage excitation to the lawn solenoids

Question
my system is about 12 years old. the control box is a RD1200. The solenoid assemblies are 205S. The voltage from the stepdown transformer into the controller terminal is about 24VZC which is correct. None of the lawn solenoids fully pick . They toggle and the voltage read at the solenoid leds is about 15 volt. the output leads from the box read 15volts when actuated.

Whats is the most probable cause and how do I fix it quickly and what would be a suitable replacement and about how much would you bcharge me.

Thanks

Answer
Hey Tony, I hope this helps. If you are getting 24 volts at the transformer, then your transformer is fine. When you get only 15 volts at the terminals at the controller, are the wires still hooked to the fiels wires? If they are, try un-hooking a field wire(#1) and the common wire, and then check your voltage at the terminal strip on valve #1. With the wires un-hooked, if you are still only getting 15 volts, then you need to replace the controller. If you are getting a 24 volt reading with the wires un-hooked, then you have a bad wire probably the ground wire, and will need to find where the problem is. Your old controller has been bought by a company called "Irri-trol" and they still make this same model. It is called a Rain-dial, and your unit will have 12 stations. This new controller costs about $175.00 and someones labor would be about $75.00. Good luck and have a great day.
