weeds in the lawn

Question
Hi,  My mom, who lives on Cape Cod, asked me to come down and dig up the
weeds in her lawn.  She says she has some big weeds that she has't seen before.
She has a large lawn, and I really don't want to waste my visit doing this,
especially if it doesn't really take care of the problem.  I know I'm not giving you
very good info, but can you advise me on this?

Answer
Here's the deal.

Right now is High WEEDS SEASON.

WEEDS everywhere are making SEEDS for WEEDS.

The Seeds will blow around, and land, and then sprout for years to come.

Your mother hit the nail right on the head by asking you to head up there to yank those Weeds up.  Every Weed you pull up will keep 1,000 to 50,000 NEW WEEDS from planting themselves everywhere.  You don't even have to know their names.  Just get them outa there.

Some of these are ANNUAL Weeds.  Here today, gone tomorrow.  If they don't set Seed, that's the end of them!

You can only stop them from doing that by yanking them out of the ground.  Poa Annua is especially troublesome -- Annual Bluegrass.  Because this Grass grows LOW to the ground, safe from Lawnmower blades and Grasscatchers.  You have to get down with the Grass and pull it out carefully.

That's the whole truth.  You can help fight Weed Crimes just by pulling them up.  A.S.A.P.
