sprinklers wont operate

Question
have an irritrol system that has always worked fine.  Had it turned off for the winter.  Turned on and tried to run in manual, no luck.  Noticed 9 voilt battery dead-changed battery and unpluged and repluged in.   Still wont function.  I checked where the valve assembly is and there is evidence of water there ( its drips a bit) but no water to any sprinkler on any program>>>

Answer
Hey Cam, the first two things I would check, would be if you have water pressure going to the system, and also if the controller is working. If you unscrew a solenoid (the unit with two wires coming from it on top of the automatic valves) you should get water spraying out of the center of where the solenoid was unscrewed, and the valve should come on and the sprinklers should work, if you have water pressure. If you don't have water pressure, then the valve will not come on, and you need to find out where your main turn on valve is, and make sure it is turned on. If you have water pressure, then check your controller, in the back of the controller, you will see a terminal strip with wires attached. Turn a station on manually (lets say #1) then with a volt/ohm meter touch the negative lead to the C(common) terminal and the hot lead to the #1 terminal and see what voltage you get. You should get between 22 to 26 volts. If you are not getting a good reading, then you have a problem with the controller. Do these two thing first, and let me know what you find out. Good luck and have a great day.
