drainage of lawn sprinklers

Question
hello. My house is newly built. Approx. 3 months. I am in Barnegat New Jersey. We have new sod. When the sprinklers water the lawn there seems to be an excess of water that does not seep into the dirt and 'lays' on top of the grass. And there is also a lot of water that goes onto my sidewalk and sits there for hours until it evaporates. We have well water and it has stained my sidewalk rust colored. And we constantly have puddles on the lawn and driveway and sidewalk. Do I have any recourse with my builder? Is it possible that the property was not 'pitched' properly for drainage? I don't know if I'm wording it properly but hopefully you get my drift. Thank you - Dina

Answer
The first thing I would do is reduce the amount of water that is being applied to the lawn, and see if this helps. Reprogamming the irrigation controller for less minutes is the easiest way.  Perhaps you could reduce the amount of start times each day.  Try these things first before seeking out the builder.
