Hardie Rain Dial

Question
I can't find the model no. but the date code is 12-14-93.  It has worked well until today.  If I set circuit 6 to run, both circuits 6 AND 7 run.  The same two circuits operate if I set circuit 7 to run.  Since no one has been near the solenoid valves, it seems the trouble must lie with the controller.  Any suggestions for fixing this glitch?

Answer
Hey Stuart, it could be in the controller, or it could be in the wires from the controller to the valves. To find out if it is in the controller, or the wires I suggest you try this. In the back of the controller take the wire off of the terminal marked #7. Now turn on zone (circuit) #6 and see if only 6 runs, or if both zones still run. If only zone 6 runs (with #7 wire disconnected) then the problem is in the controller. If # 6 and #7 still run together (with #7 wire disconnected) then you have a crossed wire in the field wiring somewhere and will need to find where it is defective. If it is in the controller, it could either be the circuit board is corroding out, or the panel and micro-processor is going out. If it is in the controller, I would suggest just replacing the whole unit since it is over 16 years old. Irri-trol bought out Hardie and they now make pretty much the same unit you now have, it is a very good unit, and I would suggest replacing it with the same unit as it will last a long time. Thanks and have a great day.
