Plants and Water

Question
Hi, I'm Sean McMahon. I needed an interview of an expert. This is for my science xpo project and for a resource, I needed an interview.
I just have to ask a couple questions.
What types of water will have a greater affect on a plant?

Does well water work the best?

And finally,
DO you think the water will have any affect on the plants?
I have Tap Water, Well Water, Sparkinling Water, Mineral Water and Tonic Water.
Thanks for your time,
Sean McMahon

Answer
Sean,

There are many factors which govern the value of different types of water regarding plant growth. Obviously clean water works the best. By clean I mean pollutant free and salt free. Water is key for plant growth  and often water source selection can promote or limit growth. An example of this is tap water. Water which has been treated with chlorine may lead to chloride salt development in the soil which will inhibit water uptake by plants. Well water high in inorganic minerals such aluminum and zinc may produce a toxic reaction in plants.
Although you've asked three question the answer actually is one. There is no best type or source of water, as long as it is clean salt free, free of toxic minerals and in enough supply almost any water source will benefit plant growth.

Hope this helps.

Scot
