Peace plants and Bromeliads

Question
Hi Will. I have had my peace plant for three years now and it has only bloomed once. The leaves are not vary big and the plant isnt vary tall. Is all this normal, and is threre any way to make the plant larger? It is very healthy and I take good care of it because it was a peice of a plant from my grandfathers passing.

I also recently had a plant given to me. I me pretty sure it is called a broomliad, but i have been searching the web and have not been sucessfull in finding a plant that looks like it. What kind of information can you give me on keeping my broomlaid in good shape?

Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Chrissy,

There are many different varieties of peace lilies. Most of those sold today are hybrids that are sporadic bloomers. All you can do is keep yours pretty potbound, in very bright, but indirect, light and fertilize it at half-strength monthly.

Peace lily leaf size is also a function of the particular variety you have. If the leaves it had when purchased were small, then future leaves will also be small. That is genetic and cannot be changed. If new leaves are substantially smaller than the original leaves, that is because your peace lily is not getting as much light as it had in the greenhouse.

There are many varieties of Bromeliad. If you email a photo of yours to my address below, I will identify it for you and let you know just how to care for it properly.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
