MY PUMKINS ARE DYING

Question
HI- SO  IM A FIRST TIME PUMKIN GROWER AND IM HAVING A BIT OF A
PROBLEM WITH THEM-- THEY HAVE BEEN GETTING TO A SIZE OF A NICKLE
AND OR A QUARTER AND THEN THEY TURN YELLOW AND DIE OFF BEFOR THE
CAN OPEN THERE FLOWER TO BE POLLINATED- I DONT THINK IM DOING
ANYTHING WRONG - DO YOU THINK IM OVER WATERING? PLEASE HELP ME I
WANT MY PUMKINS TO LIVE!

Answer
Dear Bethany,
If the plants are green, but the blossoms are falling off, it may be excessive water.  If the fruit is forming but falling off, that could also be caused from an inordinate amount of water.  Usually, when it comes to vining fruits like pumpkin, watermelon, or even squash, we tend to just accept the watering schedule, G~D provides in rain and let it go at that.  Once in awhile in the extreme dry and heat of late summer, we might water, but very rarely.  Hope this sheds some light on the difficulty.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
