Camellias are dying

Question
I'm Adding additional information to my original question for you: I had one of my Camellias in my back yard just dry up and die.  It got lots of water and sun so I can't understand why it died. I also have a row of 5 Camellias in my front yard and one of them just dried up and died recently.  I know they're getting plenty of water. I have sprinklers that run every 2 days in spring and Fall, everyday in summer and every 3 days in Winter or as needed. They don't seem to have any leaf disease there are some spots on some of the leaves but I can't see what could be so bad that they would just dry it up and die. I'm afraid whatever it is may happen to the others.  Is there something, a symptom that I can look for that will help diagnose the problem? Is it just old age? I live in Shafter Ca which is the central valley in California.  We have low desert temperatures.  We had lows in the 30s this winter (we had citrus freezing in Feb) and we get as high as 3 digits in the summer.  We have a very long summer.  It can last past Halloween.  My camellias bloom in the winter.

Hope this is more information for you.  Thanks for your consideration of my question.  I love my camellias.

Answer
hey, jill the only thing i can think of is u r  having soil problems,or there is a drainage problem.1st thing to check is the dainage, make sure the soil is not compacted n water is draining well.if u r having drainage problems they get root rot which can cause them die.then jill add some compost plus humic acid or a good orgainic soil amendment at your garden center.try n keep me posted!! thanks, chad
