Brown spots on the Boonie plant

Question
I have two Boonies Pepper plants and both are getting brown spots.  They are getting new growth on the tops of both plants. Please let me know if it is something serious and what I can do to help my plants.  They are both inside the house by the window they get plenty of sun, and I water them every other day if they need it. Help

Answer
Sherry, brown spots on pepper plants are usually an indication of inconsistent watering. This is especially prevalent in hot weather for outdoor gardens or indoor plants grown in pots.

What generally causes this is a depletion of calcium in the soil due to excess watering. This condition can be corrected by cutting back on the watering to once per week. Make sure when you do water that you water deeply until water runs out of the drainage hole. Shallow watering causes the roots to reach for the surface, which also can cause brown spots.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
