brown spots

Question
I live in Louisiana. Our temperature gets in the high 90's low 100's. Very little rain. Every year I get brown spot on my lawn. This usually starts in Sept/Oct after we have had a few days of damp weather. I have used a fungicide and sometimes it works and other times I loose my grass. Like I said this happens EVERY year. It usaully occures in the same area each year. What esle can I do to prevent this from happening.   HELP

Answer
The only problem that I can think of which might explain the whole scene is grubs. They are cyclical in their coming closer to the surface in response to moisture and the instincts of their life cycle. Even though they come up, this does not mean that they become visible. You might have to dig deeply to see them; a post hole shovel works. A very typical symptom of grub damage is that the turf can be lifted rather like a carpet; because the roots have been cut by the grubs.
