cutting back annuals

Question
I just planted all my containers with many annuals.  Alot of them are tall for young plants.  I have cut back coleous and they have come back thicker.  What about cutting back Dusty Miller, Begonia s, Verbena s, Lobelia s, Sweet potato plants?  With the Coleous I have actually been able to plant the cuttings and get a second plant.  Do you have any suggestions for perennial  plants that come back a second year in containers?    You are the greatest; I have asked your advice before and you always have super advice.    Susan

Answer
thank you susan - i seem to be getting a following...
i do try to keep things simple and have learned a lot by teaching what i did for 20+ years. i really enjoy answering garden questions.
actually i'm out of work right now. had my appendix removed and lost my job...
know anybody hiring??? just kidding...unless you work for the plant/horticulture industry.
most annuals should be pruned back if they get leggy. yes to all the plants you named. growers pinch out the center branches to make plants thicker(poinsettias, mums, etc.).
for the perennials early in the season remove some dirt away from the rootball and repot the plant into a bigger pot.(you can do it now).
good luck
