Grass Patches- Pesticides

Q: Please don’t say “I told you so” but back while it was still cold and I thought my bermudagrass was dormant, I sprayed Roundup on a few weeds. Now the lawn is starting to turn green. However, there are dead patches right where the weeds used to be. Will I have to buy new sod or seed?

A: I have good news. One application of glyphosate (Roundup) rarely kills bermudagrass outright. My bet is that the spots will come back slowly but be healthy by mid-June. If you don’t see green by early May, dig up the dead spots and lay sod. My colleague Theresa Schrum has a favorite saying: “We learn more from our ^mistakes^ than we do from our ^successes^!”
