Rhododenrons in tiubs?

Question
We've given up hope of ever having rhododendrons grow in our yard as the deer destroy them.
Is it possible to grow them in a large tub/barrel/container on the deck?  My wife loves these shrubs but clearly the yard is not an option.
We live in central NJ.
Thank you.

Answer
deer ate everything this year due to the high snowfall. i teach in burlington county. they even ate the arborvitae at our tree farm. normally they don'r like them. rhodos can be grown in tubs quite easily.
water by weight. water w/5 gallons of water. pick up(or lean) the pot. it should feel heavy. don't water again until it feels considerably lighter in weight(usually about once every 3-14 days during the summer depending on pot size, sunlite, temps, etc.). do not let it go too dry(wilt). apply fertilizer monthly during the growing season.  during winter put them in a flower bed on the east side of your house. mulch them in real good to prevent from drying out. in spring move them back on the porch.
good luck
