Harvesting rhubarb seeds

Question
I read a response you wrote to a woman about growing rhubarb from seed.  I would like to know when is the best time to harvest the seed from the plant. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Greg,
Thanx for your question.  Harvest rhubarb seeds in the summer after the plant has sent up its flower stalk and the papery seeds are off-white to brown colored.  Store the seeds in a sealed jar that is dry and store it in a dark cool place so they can be started in the spring.  If the plant from which you obtained the seeds is a hybrid, the chances are highly unlikely that the seedlings will resemble the parent plant.  Hybrids generally, do not breed true to form.  I hope this helps.
