Growing Sundews from Seed: Species-Specific Methods

Grower wants to grow D. capensis, D. capillaris, D. filiformis var. tracyi, D. intermedia from seed.

Method 1: No Stratification (Tropical/Subtropical)

D. capensis, D. capillaris: sow on moist 1:1 peat/perlite, barely cover, bright light (12k+ lumens), room temp. Sprouts in weeks. D. capillaris often annual – collect seeds. D. capensis perennial, prolific seeder.

Method 2: Cold Stratification (Temperate)

D. intermedia, D. filiformis: sow, bag with neem/sulfur fungicide, fridge 6–8 weeks (40°F). Check for mold, respray. Or ice chest with frozen bottles (12-hr cycles). After stratification, move to light/warmth.

Notes

No copper/soap fungicides. Frozen bottle method: ~6 half-full 20oz bottles for 12 hrs in regular cooler.
