dogwood tree

Question
i have found a large pink dogwood tree is there anyway to get a piece from this tree without hurting it? i have noticed a little ways from it there are smaller trees that have the same type leaves as the larger but no blooms is it possible that they could be pink when they bloom. they stand about 3.5 to 4.0 ft tall. thanks

Answer
Hi Charlene,
Thanx for your question.  Yes it is possible that there are seedlings growing around the main tree.  You can dig them up (dig deeply) and transplant them to the places you want them.  Just make sure the holes are bit deeper than from where the trees came.  You can also take 6 inch soft wood cuttings off of the tree and strip off all but the last two leaves.  Dip in rooting hormone and place in warm wet sand.  Keep misted and the bottom warm and rooting should take place in 8 or more weeks.  I Hope this helps.
Tom
