tulip and crocus relocation

Question
I recently moved into my new home and am blessed with a wide variety of perennial flowers, flowering trees and bushes. I am hoping to get many answers here but I'll keep it short. My tulips were "frost bit" i think, they are in a really bad spot and i want to relocate them also i want to relocate my crocuses. do i need to wait till fall? they are in the middle of the yard and being overtaken by grass. Also i took a mallet cut from a dogwood tree and put it in store bought potting soil. do you think it will take root? i also did this with another tree but i don't know what it is called...can i send images for identification?

Answer
Hi Kenny,
Thanks for your questions.  Dig your crocuses up now and move them.  For the tulips, wait until the bloom and then let the leaves wilt and start to turn brown.  Then you can dig them up and transplant them to where you want them.  I'm sorry Kenny.  I don't know what a mallet cut is.  I am going to assume it is like a cutting off of a live tree that is 4-8 inches long and stripped of all leaves but the last two or three, cut end dipped in rooting hormone and then placed and inch or two into warm, wet sand.  Rooting occurs in 8 weeks or more depending on environment.

When propagating shrubs or trees from cuttings, do not use potting soil.  I use warm, wet, sand.  It's the best.  You can use soil less mix and you can use vermiculite.

If you have images you would like for me to see, direct me to them and I'll see what I can determine.  I hope this helps.

Tom
