Lillies

Question
Could you please advise me, how much do I cut back my lilles for growth next year.  They have finished flowering now, I want them to flower next year.  This is my first year as a gardner and I am still learning.  Any tips gratefuly accepted.

Answer
Hi Kevin,
Thanx for your question.  You may go ahead and deadhead (remove) spent blossoms now if you like while allowing the green growth to remain growing.  Once the green growth starts yellowing, it's okay to cut if down to the ground.  While it is green, the plant is still gathering energy from the sun and making starches in the bulb for next year's bloom and growth.  I hope this helps.
Tom
