Starting seeds

Question
Hi, I have several trees that I would like to start from seeds, Mexican Buckeye, Mountain Laurel, Pinon Pine.  I was wondering if I should wait until spring or could I start the seeds indoors?  If indoors, should I use a heat mat or light.  These trees are native to my area in the Texas hill country.  I understand that the Mountain Laurel seeds must be scratched and soaked, would that be true with the Mexican Buckeye seeds?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Mindy,
Thanx for your question.  I would wait until after Christmas to start these seeds.  None of them require any special treatment except the Mountain Laurel and the Mexican Buckeye will benefit from scarifying or scratching the hardcoat of the seed.  I hope this helps.
Tom
