Starting trumpet vine seeds

Question
Mike,

Hello, I would like to know how to start trumpet vine seeds. I purchased these seeds from a seller on eBay this spring. I attempted to start them indoors in seed flats when I got them, but nothing happened. I also tried starting them in two different spots in the garden via direct seeding and again still nothing. I am not even sure as to what variety of trumpet vine they are to be honest.

Answer
Clint, I apologize for not answering the question in the way you expected. Please keep in mind that we receive over 1000 questions per year as volunteers. Many times the questions are similar in nature, so we answer them using previous responses.

In your case, I reread your question several times and it still sounds like you were asking how to start seeds. That is why I gave you my basic response on seed starting. Except for when having to stratify seeds and planting depth, the procedure is identical for all seeds.

In your case, you may have simply purchased poor seed. This has happened to me in the past, and I purchase all of my seed from a very reputable source. But it does happen on occasion when seed is not harvested correctly or is aged beyond its viable stage. When this does occur, my source has always been very good about send me fresh seed, which in every case, germinated just fine.

Once again, I'm sorry for the misinterpretation of your original question. As a volunteer, we do the best we can.

Mike
