cherry pips

Question
i have planted a few cherry pips in compost from reading some off your previous answers it suggests these wont grow is that correct?

Answer
Hi Ellie,
Thanx for your question and thank you for using the Search function.  The cherry pits will sprout after they have been exposed to 60-90 days of sustained temperatures at 40F and below.  The thing is, if these pits are the result of hybridization, their resulting seedlings, trees and fruit, will not resemble the parent plants and will most likely be inferior in taste and quality.  With that said, that doesn't mean the plants won't be viable and the fruit not taste good.  Remember that it will take 5-7 years to get fruit from seed.  I hope this helps.
Tom
